NOTICE OF THE DOUGLAS COUNTY COMMISSION’S ADOPTION OF ORDINANCE NO. 2025-1653
Increasing the monthly surcharge for enhancement or improvement of the telephone system used for reporting emergencies.
Effective Date of Ordinance: May 1, 2025
The Douglas County Commission adopted Ordinance 2025-1653 amending Douglas County Code Chapter 3.50 to increase the monthly surcharge for enhancement or improvement of the telephone system used for reporting emergencies.
The new 9-1-1 Surcharge Rates are as follows:
- Access Lines: $1.00 per month per line (increased from $.75)
- Trunk Lines: $10.00 per month per line (increased from $7.50)
- Mobile Telephone Numbers: $1.00 per month per number (increased from $.75)
Provider Duty to Collect and Remit:
Pursuant to Douglas County Code Section 3.50.090(F), telecommunications providers and mobile telephone service providers (collectively “providers”) must begin collecting the increased surcharge no later than July 1, 2025, which is 60 days following the ordinance’s effective date.
All surcharge amounts collected must be remitted monthly to the Douglas County Treasurer no later than the 15th day of the month following receipt of the surcharge from customers, in accordance with NRS Chapter 244A.7643. Providers are entitled to retain an amount equal to their actual cost of collecting the surcharge, pursuant to NRS 244A.7647.
